Goods To Man
Goods to Man describes an order fulfillment strategy to reduce or eliminate walk times associated with order picking to improve efficiency and productivity. The term implies automatic delivery of goods to the person with material-flow control systems such as carousels, ASRS, Order Storage and Retrieval Machines, automatically guided carts, robotic pallet building, or even conveyor-based delivery systems that can produce up to 1,000 order lines pph.
In general, goods-to-man systems are not intended for fast-moving inventory due to the frequency of replenishment required to support fulfillment volumes. Many retailers and wholesalers, however, carry a large variety of medium and slow SKUs that require a significant amount of space and labor, which typically constitutes the majority of their inventory. These SKUs may be ideal for Goods to Man.
