| In 2001, King’s Hawaiian built a
new facility in Torrance and in 2004, more equipment was added, including a
robot and freezer system, to improve handling and shipping of the company’s
breads. Hytrol conveyors were installed to compliment this equipment.
Hytrol’s equipment begins moving the bread after it is
received from the ovens. Workers place the wrapped bread in boxes and these
boxes are placed on one of two inclines which junction to two overhead
conveyor lines.
The boxes move overhead to a mezzanine where a robot palletizes the boxes of
bread. The bread is conveyed by chain roller conveyor into a -20°F freezer.
After the bread is frozen, a second robot de-palletizes the boxes. They move
down an incline to a Hytrol high-speed sortation conveyor located under the
mezzanine. The boxes are sorted here for loading on trucks.
King’s Hawaiian is very pleased with the Hytrol equipment. Their old system
was primarily manual. Since the installation of the Hytrol conveyor and
robotics, they have been able to double throughput.
“The EZLogic conveyors are very impressive. They require no maintenance--no
hands-on troubleshooting. They work very well. This accumulating conveyor
puts no pressure on the boxes and accumulate with no problems.”
System Hy-lites:
• Facility Size: 125,000 sq. ft.
• Employees: 105
• Product Handled: Hawaiian sweet bread and rolls
• Types of conveyors: Slider bed & roller bed, roller bed incline,
zero-pressure accumulating, chain roller, high-speed sortation.
